A-Line Versus Body-Con

(Well...I just realized I seem to have a serious love of skulls and the color black. I hope that doesn't deter anyone :)

¡Hola! This is a post that I have been dying to do even before I started a blog officially. I was just struck by the idea walking down the street one day and I don't even think I was wearing a skirt, but that's beside the point. :] It's something that I am sure (well kind of sure :) we have all debated at one point or another, and that question is: should I wear an a-line skirt or a body-con skirt? Well I think they both have assets and liabilities, and since I have worn both on multiple occasion and have had some experiences that were favorable and some not so favorable I am prepared to share my take on each one.

Body-con skirts are classic and versatile and in the right color like a classic black can go with just about any top and shoes. They come in various patterns and skirts. Shirts looks good tucked into body-cons and they look good under an over-sized top. They can fit anyone's style and can be made into a makeshift dress by tucking a fancy top into one. One of the cons of this kind of skirt, is that they often ride up and if they are not the right length you might just be pulling it down all day long. Also, this skirt clings to the body a bit, hence the name, so be mindful of pantie-lines. If you have a larger tush (like myself) it does highlight it, whether this is a good thing or bad thing is up to you :] But if you have a smaller bum and want it to appear larger, try one with horizontal stripes; if you have a larger bum and want it to appear smaller, try it with vertical stripes. My suggestion for making it work is to wear them with an over-sized top that covers the bum so if they ride up there isn't much exposure. Another idea that I do often is to wear them with tights or stockings. I don't know why, it might be the friction, but whenever I wear tights with my body con skirts, they stay in place all day.

A-line skirts come in a variety of styles, but usually have pleats of some sort. They are flattering on basically every body type and can create an hourglass figure by wearing a tighter shirt on top (or not) and tucking it into the skirt. They can help hide any lumps or bumps and can sometimes disguise the size of the bum. There is no paranoia about pantie-lines with this skirt. They can range from the feminine tutu type to more rocker styles like a leather skirt. However, if a gust of wind comes along, you better be prepared to hold your skirt down for dear life, lest give the people in front, next to, and behind you a show. These skirts can be a hassle to adjust and often depending on whether they come with a zipper closure or elastic waistband they may either stay in one fixed position or the only place they can go is up. If you have a larger bum sometimes your skirt may stick out further and make the length shorter in the back than the front of the skirt and pulling or tugging on it often does not help. Even if the occasional gust of wind does not come along, you might still feel like you are showing off more than you want it to with this free-moving, breezy skirt. My suggestion, try these skirts with elastic waist bands to adjust them more easily. Also try wearing shorts underneath, I know it sounds a little junior high, but Forever21 has a great pair shorts that is cheap, form fitting, comfortable, and short enough that they are not noticeable if worn with this type of skirt, unless it's a breezy day. If shorts are too much for you, try opaque or thick black tights if it is winter. Or for hotter weather, try thin tights with the modesty panels at the top that just look like shorts.

Well, personally, I don't think I can choose between these two skirts, but each one is more suited for certain functions in my wardrobe. Which type of skirt is your favorite? Or do you dislike both? Comment below and let me know!
